A View from the Bridge

A classic from arguably the greatest American playwright in history, Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge” gets a Broadway revival this season after a wildly popular run in London where this production won Olivier Awards for “Best Revival,” “Best Actor,” and “Best Director.” Ivo van Hove makes his directorial Broadway debut, while Mark Strong—best known for starring in “The Imitation Game” and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”—leads the cast.

China Doll

When Al Pacino stars in a play that David Mamet pens, people pay attention. Looking to reproduce the incredible success of a recent “Glengarry Glen Ross” revival that saw Pacino perform the central role of Shelly Levene, the people behind “China Doll” are rushing back over to the same well. Here, Pacino tackles the part of billionaire Mickey Ross hoping to settle into semiretirement and marking the occasion by purchasing a plane for his young fiancé. But one phone call grounds all his plans.

Misery

Based on the Stephen King novel that was reimagined into an Oscar-winning film, “Misery” is getting the full Broadway treatment with a new script by two-time Academy Award winner William Goldman (“The Princess Bride,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”) and a strictly limited 16-week engagement starring Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne,” “JFK”).

School of Rock

Follow failed-rock-star-turned-substitute-teacher Dewey Finn as he creates his own curriculum for prestigious prep school kids, turning his class into a high-octane rock band. Based on the hugely popular film starring Jack Black, “School of Rock” is a brand new musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber acting as producer and scorer with 14 new songs to go along with some original tunes from the movie.

The Color Purple

Jennifer Hudson (“Dreamgirls”) has won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy. This Fall she’s going for the Tony as Shug Avery in a Broadway revival of the 2005 hit “The Color Purple,” based on the novel by Alice Walker. Oprah Winfrey co-produces the show chronicling forty years of Po’ Chil’ Celie’s life in the segregated South.
