If you’re anything like me, you are in great need of a detox after the big meals and constant little snacks of the holidays. How convenient that New Years and its resolutions are coming up this week, giving us the perfect opportunity for a fresh start at revising our own personal goals and daily habits. Speaking of habits, how you start your day can determine the rest of your day, both in what you give to your body and how you feed your mind.
So make it a resolution to start your day with a healthy liquid breakfast! Here are several options. Choose one that appeals to your taste preferences, or mix it up and try them all so you don’t get bored. We all know the stats on keeping resolutions but I believe this will quickly become something you look forward to and stick with easily!
Claudia’s Take on the Tracy Shake
I can’t imagine walking the kids school, heading to the studio to dance for two hours, and then working a full day in the office without having my Tracy Anderson Method Shake first thing in the morning! It gives me the nutrients and energy to make it through a busy day that requires a lot of me. My favorite way to make it is with blueberries!
The Reverse Aging Smoothie
This grape and blueberry filled smoothie is said to reverse aging, both via the effects of its ingredients and in the youthful energy it will give you all day long! Blend 2 large bananas with 2 handfuls red, seedless grapes and 1 handful Blueberries, plus 1 cup ice and 1/4 cup milk of your choice.
Natalie Uhling’s Green Breakfast in a Blender
Natalie, the face of Under Armour Women, tells Into the Gloss that she always drinks her breakfast. Sometimes with protein or pomegranate or chocolate… but I love her recipe for a green juice! “I’ll do kale, spinach, lemon, ginger, scoop of Garden of Life Raw Protein powder [Ed. note: not all protein powders are made alike, we learned], chia seeds, a probiotic, and frozen blueberries, half a banana, and maybe an apple for taste.” Must try!
The Detox Market’s Banana Bread Smoothie
This one is green too, but with tons of banana (so nutritious!) and nuts for great flavor and some much needed protein: Combine 1 ripe banana, frozen with 1 cup milk, 2 handfuls spinach leaves, 1/4 cup walnuts, 1/4 cup oats and a sprinkle of cinnamon in blender, light stuff on bottom (spinach, oats, cinnamon, walnuts), heavy stuff on top (banana and ice), and pour the milk over the top. Blend until it’s nice and smooth!
The Flat-Tumme Smoothie
This recipe prevents bloating and soothes digestive stress! Blend 3/4 cup papaya with 3/4 cup sliced peaches, 1/2 a pear sliced, 1 tsp fresh ginger, 2 mint leaves and water to thin. This one is perfect the morning after a big celebratory dinner or on days when you’re just not feeling your usual flat tummy.
