Falling for Lisbon

This year has been all about finding balance in our family life, especially with a 16-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old son. After 19 years of marriage, we’ve come to realize that each phase of life brings its unique set of challenges and joys. For us, this year has been a journey of learning how to adapt and reconnect.

June was almost over and our 16 year old daughter needed a job. Hence, I thought what can we do to make her summer a mix of work and also fun. I googled volunteer work and found impact beach in Portugal to offer a good variety of opportunities for our daughter. It was also was more economical than city camps.

Here is my week in showing Sofia around Lisbon and falling for this beautiful city.

Aside from being a great broker and finding deals for my clients, I can also find good deals in Travel with a bit of time and travel points.

Our first stop was the center of Lisbon where all the views and stores are. One of our top places were the most beautiful view of Principe Real Alfama and who can beat the shopping on Avenida Liberdade.

Our first week in Portugal was a bonding experience. We explored Old and New Lisbon, from Bairro Alto to Alfa savoring every moment together, learning the culture, and creating lasting memories. We got to Explore the wonderful MAAT Museum and the Tower at Belem.

20 minutes out of the old town in Lisbon, we were in one of the most affluent neighborhoods Cascais. This is where Sofia’s Volunteer location was in the Estoril Beachtown.

Our adventure was biking the coast of Cascais and enjoying the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and Boca del Inferno. There is so much Art and History in this mountainous town.

We visited Paula Rego’s House of Stories which was a highlight, showcasing Portugal’s rich artistic heritage. The food was delightful, and the blend of art and history made our stay even more memorable. It was a time for deep connection, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Then we headed to Cascais, where Sofia began her volunteer mission. Despite the challenges of early mornings and a grueling commute, she adapted remarkably. Her Spanish helped bridge the language gap with Portuguese speakers, and she quickly found her place among the kids. While the work was demanding and left little time for sightseeing, I’m glad I gave her that first week to adjust. The camp provided a true sense of purpose and understanding of the importance of service.

From a real estate perspective, Portugal has been an eye-opener. The country offers a charming and safe environment with beautiful, unique houses. It’s clear why many are drawn to Portugal for its quality of life. Even as a New York City real estate agent, I understand why people are attracted to different places. While NYC offers unmatched opportunities and dreams, places like Portugal provide a peaceful, enriching alternative.

If you’re considering a move or just curious about Portugal’s real estate, feel free to reach out for more details. Whether you’re looking for a change of pace or an investment opportunity, I’m here to help you navigate the possibilities.
