I’ve been a passionate admirer of Francesco Clemente ever since I discovered his watercolor portraits, drawings, and paintings in the 1998 film “Great Expectations,” directed by Alfonso Cuarón. In this beautifully crafted film, Ethan Hawke plays a painter who wins the heart of Gwyneth Paltrow, with all the captivating artworks showcased being the creations of Clemente. The exquisite use of greens throughout the film truly brings his artistry to life.
A blend of my favorite artist and an exquisite cocktail menu, paired with exceptional food, is an experience that simply can’t be missed! The stunning scenery only adds to the magic of it all!
Hidden above the legendary Eleven Madison Park, Clemente is not just a cocktail bar—it’s an immersive experience where art, design, and culinary innovation converge. A collaboration between Chef Daniel Humm and artist Francesco Clemente, this intimate tasting counter and lounge is the latest addition to NYC’s ever-evolving luxury dining scene.

A Space That Blends Art, History & Culinary Excellence
Following the complete redesign of Eleven Madison Park in 2017, the acclaimed architecture firm Allied Works has returned to craft Clemente Bar—a space that merges Humm’s culinary artistry with Clemente’s visionary artwork. Inspired by the historic Kronenhalle in Zürich, which showcases works by Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, and Paul Klee, Clemente takes the art bar concept to new heights.

To create a multi-sensory experience, Allied Works transformed three private dining rooms and a kitchen into a richly layered environment, featuring:
- A dramatic color palette of burgundy, brown, and gold
- Three 17-foot-long murals and original artworks by Francesco Clemente
- Custom walnut panels, hand-carved in Allied Works’ woodshop
- Vintage furniture pieces curated by Brett Robinson
- Custom lighting designed in collaboration with artist Carsten Höller

The chef’s counter is designed for intimacy and connection, featuring solid Hinoki wood—a symbol of purity and longevity—alongside velvety natural stone. Guests sit in vintage Niels Møller paper cord chairs, surrounded by original drawings by Alba Clemente, making each dining experience feel like a private work of art.
A Bold New Take on Plant-Based Cuisine & Cocktails
Chef Daniel Humm, whose Eleven Madison Park became the first Michelin three-star plant-based restaurant, extends his culinary vision at Clemente with a playful yet refined menu that challenges perceptions of plant-based dining. My favorite was their delicious Mushroom Burger!
Tasting Counter Highlights:
- Sake Pickles – Crunchy kohlrabi and cucumber
- Carrot Tartare – A sumptuous take on the classic dish, topped with tonburi (“land caviar”).
- Inari – Seasoned fried tofu, sushi rice, and avocado, reimagined.
- Agedashi Dog – Fried tofu in a potato roll, finished with black truffles.

Pairing beautifully with the menu, Sebastian Tollius’ cocktail program is a study in precision and innovation. Each drink is crafted with meticulous technique, offering unexpected flavor combinations in an effortlessly elegant presentation.
Cocktail Highlights:
- 5th Leaf – A pisco-based blend of smoked sunchoke, pear, and shiso.
- Clemente Martini – A bold take on the classic, infused with green curry and saffron.
