Maria Baum created the foundation in 2012 when she was introduced to paddle boarding shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She found the activity provided a positive outlet during her treatment and subsequent recovery. Inspired by her own passion for paddle boarding, Maria was moved to use the activity as a way to raise funds for breast cancer research. Last year’s event was the most successful to date raising over $1.5 million, selling out at both the paddle race and the party, while notable attendees included Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Molly Sims, Martha Stewart, Donna Karan, and other celebs. This year’s very special guests are actress/writer/director Lena Dunham of HBO’s Girls and professional volleyball superstar and model Gabrielle Reece.

Last year, VH1 raised approximately $350,000 as A-listers and supporters partied the night away. Tickets are $500, and donation packages run up to $10,000.
