Dining my way through Manhattan

A couple of weeks ago I had a few amazing dinners with some incredible people: a couple that Mark and I relocated from London, the advertising director at Manhattan Magazine, and my sweet high school girlfriends celebrating our birthdays together. All three of restaurants were so exceptional in service, and the food was beyond delicious!

Here’s a recap of these great New York spots and the best dishes to try:

The RED CAT
A local favorite in West Chelsea featuring Chef Jimmy Bradley.  The evening I was there we spotted star Gina Gershon! The Red Cat is artsy and chic but still has a low key neighborhood vibe. We had a great marketing/braniding conversation with Fernando from Manhattan Magazine while we tasted these amazing dishes.

Entrees I recommend:

PAN ROAST COD | flageolets, moroccan olives, oranges, basil oil &
PAN SEARED DUCK BREAST | fingerlings, lardons, pickled onions, tart cherry jus

Sides to die for are:

LIGHT TEMPURA OF GREEN BEANS | sweet hot mustard
BAKED POLENTA | with stewed tomatoes and parmesan

Freeman’s

Friday night we also got the chance to eat at Freemans in the Lower East Side with a lovely couple from London who we relocated and have become quite friendly with. The perks of having a career in NYC real estate is building amazing freindships…and eating at the best restaurants NYC has to offer! The service was great, we had a server who was very familiar with the top picks of wine and entrees so we just let him order what he thought we would like, and we absolute LOVED it! Not to mention the scene was very cool and low key.   Owned by Taavo Somer and William Tigertt.

Must try:

the Hot Artichoke Dip with Crisp Bread
Seared Filet Mignon | sweet & sour onions, mashed potatoes, horseradish cream
Five Cheese Macaroni
Grilled Pork Loin | yukon gold potato salad, peach mustard
Chocolate Brownie | vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce

Morimoto

Run by The iron chef Masaharu Morimoto, this restaurant may have been the culinary highlight of my week!  My Saturday evening was spent with my 2 best girlfriends from high school celebrating our birthdays together at Morimoto. This restaurant is a staple for me as I tend to go their often for my love of sushi and the great service. They treated us to the delicious Crispy Rock Shrimp Tempura and as an extra touch they put birthday candles in our dessert!  We were surprised at their gesture and enjoyed our wonderful girl-time evening. Great for a casual chic meal!

I recommend:
Toro Tartare
Oestra caviar, cremefraiche, wasabi, dashi-soy
tuna pizza olives, anchoby aioli, jalapeno
Crispy Rock shrimp tempura
Braised Black Cod, Japanese rataoille, ginger-soy reducution

Plus the sashimi and sushi are all really good!
